We look back at the great ones we lost in 2017…and there were a number of great ones: Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, and Tom Petty. While two hours provides only a limited amount of time, our parameters are such that we look at contributions and influences, focusing our honor to those who fit the roots and the body of work that these greats brought to the fore. We’ll feature music of Rosalie Sorrels, Greg Allman, Steely Dan, Don Williams, Glen Campbell, and numerous others whose lives will live on in their music. Join Dave Stroud for two hours of music from the last century on Sonoma County community radio.

Just a closer walk…Deeper Roots walks the gospel road once more, this time forgoing the ancestral roots for modern takes in black gospel, country gospel, and bluegrass from the Heartland. Our focus will be on some of the contemporary performers who cover with due recognition some of the great gospel standards. We’ll hear from Hugh Laurie, Willie Watson, Rodney Crowell, Bruce Cockburn, and Luther Dickinson…and that’s just a taste. We’ll hear the stories of Samson and Delilah alongside John the Revelator….right here on Deeper Roots…coming your way from the KWTF downtown studios.

The farmer, the farm, and songs of farming are at the core of this week’s theme show. Whether the songs’ focus is that of the hard-working folk of the farm, the raw materials, or the nostalgic reminders of life on the farm, we’ll push forward the playlist plough and take you to the barn for an early morning celebration with performers including bluegrass from James King, gritty Americana from Levon Helm and Bill Neely, core country from Bobby Bare and Porter Wagoner, or maybe some field recordings from the 20s featuring the likes of the Carolina Tar Heels…all of this music going Back On The Farm.
