We’re exploring the blues this week on Deeper Roots. And it’s all about bad luck blues…when the dice roll snake eyes, when the crops won’t make the rent, when your woman asks for money and all you got is the dust in your pockets…when you ain’t got no money. Join Dave Stroud for a collection of the very best including Big Joe Williams’ Jinx Blues, bad luck stories from Dinah Washington and Memphis Minnie, piano moaning from Leroy Carr and Ivory Joe, as well as further tales of gambling, dice, and no luck from Clifford Gibson and Black Boy Shine. Friday evening blues….what more?

Free Form – September 2017
Join Dave Stroud for a special edition of Deeper Roots: A Century of America’s Music. He’ll be sitting in for Steady Eddie’s Retro Music Archives, filling the airwaves with sounds you would expect to hear on either show. With a little blend of roots Americana stirred in. Hot rod sounds, killer diller Memphis Minnie blues, early century pop from Annette Hanshaw and Mae West, gospel from the Blind Boys of Alabama and Sam Cooke…and some sweet soul vocals from The Ravens and Barbara Lewis. You won’t go wrong on a Sunday afternoon in West County. Tune in.
Five Year Anniversary
Time has flown like it always does…it’s been since August 2012 and we’re taking time out for a special celebration on weekly show. Dave Stroud will be reaching back and revisiting tracks he played on the first couple of shows back in the day…including tracks from Geraint Watkins, Fats Waller, Sister Rosetta, Big Joe Turner, Nina Simone, and a host of others. Deeper Roots has kept its promise to it’s listeners…back then and right to the current day. Tune in! Join us and raise a glass.
